As women, we have all wished that we could wish away periods, haven’t we? I mean, it’s good to know that one is fertile and all, but sometimes it does become a hindrance, especially if you have planned a holiday or need to be outside the whole day because your job demands it. In fact, in hinterland India, many girls drop out of school after reaching puberty because it is way too much of a hassle to go to school while on their periods since they do not have access to proper sanitary care. This is really heartbreaking and an issue that definitely needs some looking into.
Even with access to sanitary pads, tampons, and now even the revolutionary menstrual cup, urban women too have been bothered and felt restrained because of their periods. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that a majority of women have painful experiences while on their periods. Right from mood swings to actual physical pain in the form of cramps, periods do make life a lot more complicated and inconvenient for women.
So, is there any way this can be managed so as not to affect the lives of the women or even hinder the way they live their lives? Turns out, there is. Thanks to the advancement in modern medicine, there are ways to suppress your periods temporarily, and also semi-permanently and permanently if you so wish.
However, it is important to know the loopholes in this as well. In the first couple of months when you start this process, you might experience unexpected bleeding when you least expect it. This might cause inconveniences, especially if you’re in the middle of something important like an outdoor shoot, a date or a day at the beach. However, it is known to stop as the days go by and your body starts adjusting to it.
That said, here are the benefits that you can experience if you opt to stop your periods.
1. No More Endometriosis-Related Pain
Endometriosis is more common than you can imagine and many women suffer from it, but are not aware of the fact. If your periods are too painful, chances are you could be suffering from endometriosis (1). This condition is nothing but when the lining of your uterus, after disintegrating every month, grows on your fallopian tubes and ovaries. This can result in a lot of pain and discomfort. Once you get your periods suppressed, this problem will not surface and you’ll be able to live your life as normally as possible.
2. No More Period Cramps
Period cramps are something that we are all too familiar with. The reason why this happens is because our vajayjay tends to contract in order to be able to shed the lining. While it is possible to manage the pain with painkillers, hot water bags, and other home remedies, it still isn’t a very pleasant experience to have over and over every month. If you opt to stop your periods, this problem will also disappear.
3. No More Mood Swings Because Of PMS
Since you won’t be having your periods, the whole imbalance of hormones in your body that causes these mood swings won’t be there either. Also, the whole tension of being unprepared in case it happens suddenly will also be eliminated, meaning you’ll also have some peace of mind.
4. No More Bloating During Periods
Many women experience bloating while on their periods as the body tends to retain more water (2). As soon as you stop your periods, this problem stops as well and allows you to be comfortable in your skin throughout the month.
5. No More Hot Flashes
It is known that before menopause hits, the female body goes through a lot of hormonal changes, which can result in hot flashes, sleepless nights due to sweating, and a lot more (3). Known as perimenopause, all these symptoms can be avoided by choosing to stop or suppress your periods on your own.
6. No More Acne
Because of the hormonal changes that the menstrual cycle brings, many women tend to have breakouts, which can become really annoying. Once your periods stop, you won’t be facing this problem either!
7. No More Migraines
Many women’s migraines are triggered by their period and nothing can be more annoying or debilitating than this. If you choose to stop your periods, this problem also disappears.
8. No More Meticulous Planning
It can get quite cumbersome, having to plan all your activities around this one thing. Be it a holiday with the boyfriend or simply a visit to the beach, you need to be very aware. And there is no guarantee that your periods will not happen without any warning. All of this can be avoided if you choose to stop your periods.
So, what do you think? Would you like to opt for period suppression? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
