Aishwarya Rai is one of the few Indian women to make it on the Most Beautiful Women list. In a poll conducted by a famous online magazine in 2013, the Bride And Prejudice actress ranked in fourth. The poll involved 4 million people sending in their votes, and it placed Italian actress Monica Belluci first. Aishwarya is also the winner of the 1994 Miss World Pageant and has made a name for herself in Bollywood. So it should come as no surprise that when she finally decided to tie the knot with her then-beau, Abhishek Bachchan, she wanted to do it in style. The Grand Indian Wedding
On the 20th of April in 2007, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan exchanged vows in a grand ceremony attended by the Bollywood elite and many more celebrities and politicians. Their wedding was one of the most exquisite and expensive weddings the country had witnessed. Aishwarya rocked a gorgeous golden Kanjeevaram saree that featured a gold border and tonnes of expensive jewels. It was designed by famed celebrity designer Neeta Lulla. The stunning ensemble had intricate gold detailing and thread work with crystals studded all over. It was priced at a whopping 75 lakh rupees, and we can see why. To complement Aishwarya’s gorgeous look, Abhishek wore a gold-lined white Sherwani. Aishwarya’s jewelry took her outfit to the next level and made her look on point.
Their wedding was an extravagant affair, and the pair rocked outfits that complimented each other tremendously. The duo was even treated to a lovely dance number by Abhishek’s parents, the legendary Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. Abhishek and Aishwarya have been married for over a decade now and share a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan. During an interview, Abhishek had even candidly revealed how he planned a romantic dinner for the pair during a trip to the Maldives for their anniversary. He had said, “So this is for men everywhere—don’t believe that bit about a candlelight dinner on the beach being the most romantic thing in the world. I tried that for our anniversary in the Maldives, and it was a disaster.”
Fashion Fest
Not only did the pair get designed by the mega-talented Neeta Lulla but also by the super famous fashion designer duo, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The fashionable duo shared a picture of the much-in-love couple from their 2007 wedding and penned down their thoughts on the idea behind the outfits. The pair spoke about Aishwarya’s fantastic pastel ghagra that was embellished with precious stones and sequins, as well as Abhishek’s outfit. Abhishek wore a blue silver brocade short Sherwani that was embroidered in gota resham, pearls, and stones. The duo described the wedding as, “An epitome of glamour and grace and the memory of it remains fresh in our hearts.”
Tapping into the witty persona he is most known for, Abhishek spoke about how disastrous the evening turned out to be after the candle he lit kept getting blown out by the wind. He also added that sand got into their food and made it taste pretty terrible. When asked about what it was about Aishwarya that made her so special, Abhishek spoke about how she was someone he could spend hours talking to and that they would talk about everything under the sun. He spoke about how the most romantic thing you can do for your wife is to be there for her when she needs someone to talk to. He added that for a successful marriage or relationship, you need to be present, listen, and share.
How They Met
Aishwarya and Abhishek had been friends for years before they decided to date. They had starred in many films together including, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Naa Kaho, and Umrao Jaan. Abhishek spoke about how they had an exceptionally close friendship, which eventually evolved into the pair developing feelings for each other. Aishwarya spoke about how when they did get together, they were very sure that they wanted to be together for good. Abhishek had revealed the two fell in love on the sets of their film Umrao Jaan.
He spoke about how he loves the fact that Aishwarya dedicates herself fully to any and all roles she performs, whether that is acting or being a mother. He even spoke about how they don’t really know who fell in love first and that when it did happen, everything just seemed to fall into place for them. The family was recently in the news after Amitabh, Abhishek, Aishwarya, and Aaradhya contracted the coronavirus. However, all of them made a speedy recovery and were back home and safe in no time.
It’s so wonderful to know that the chemistry the pair shared in their films was because they were such close friends.
