11 Reasons Why Being In A Good Relationship Is So Important

Written by Saumya Gaur  •

Being in love is a wonderful feeling and if you get to hold on to that feeling for as long as you want, then there is definitely nothing like it. If you are in such a relationship where you cannot think of a better way to spend your time than by being with your partner, then you surely have hit the jackpot. However, besides the aforementioned reason, there are many other benefits of being in a relationship, let’s look at them.

1. You Have An Ever-Ready Team Of Two

Let’s begin with the obvious one. When you are in a relationship, you gain a permanent member in your team in the form of your partner. You’ve had a bad day at work? They would be ready for you at the end of the day with a glass of wine and some dinner. There is something very reassuring about having someone there for you at the end of the day.

2. You Have An In-House Masseuse!

Imagine coming home after a hectic day at work, by the time you reach home, your limbs are aching and you are in a dire need of a massage. Now, if you’re single, you get to come home to an empty apartment. However, if you’re living with your partner, if you ask nicely (yes, nicely), they are likely to give you a good massage. Such a luxury!

3. You Learn To Be More Patient

When you have been living alone for a long time, a hermit of your own making, you tend to do things on your own terms but being in a relationship teaches you to work in a team. Since you end up sharing a house, a life, and a routine with your partner, you no longer get to call all the shots. You have to be patient with them, adjust your routine with theirs.

4. No More Unsolicited “Wanna Friendship With Me?” Requests

Remember the early days of Facebook when it was the hangout central? And today, its place has been taken over by Snapchat and Instagram. While these sites are a good place to connect with friends, they are also a gold mine for all the creepy stalkers to send their bizarre messages! If you are in a relationship, you can safely ignore the unknown messages in your inbox without the fear of missing out a good dating opportunity.

5. It Teaches You To Be More Considerate

Your “I, me and mine” rhetoric stops working the moment you enter into a serious relationship. So, if your partner is sick in bed, you will do everything to make sure they are comfortable. Right from bringing them breakfast in bed, to getting up at night to check their temperature if they’ve contracted the flu. You learn to put someone else’s need before yours.

6. You Have A Permanent Plus One!

You’re no longer the sad loner at the weddings and parties. You now have a standing date to take with you to these events. Surely counts as a major benefit when you think about all those aunties and their “suitable rishtas” you get to avoid.

7. They Keep You In Check

Everybody has his or her own flaws. It can be a quick temper or a sharp tongue. You might be a lazy sloth, but your partner will point out these flaws and encourage you to work on them. And, since they do it so sweetly, you might just listen!

8. Your Agony Aunt Is Right There

So, you think that the scolding you got from your boss wasn’t justified. Now, who will you tell this to? Certainly, not your boss, (rolls eyes) and the friend in the office might be willing to listen but how long can you eat into her time? It’s better to come home and have a mega bitching session with your partner over a cup of coffee. He might even make you realize your fault!

9. You Always Have Someone To Do Things With

Be it the early yoga class you unwittingly signed up for or the marathon you want to participate in, you have your partner to take along with you. Now, you have no excuse to not do things because you are alone.

10. You Pull Each Other Up

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they want to quit. It could be a difficult job, it could be studies, it could be anything. In moments like these, it helps to have your personal cheerleader cheering you on from the sidelines. You can also return the favor when the time comes.

11. You Have Meaningful Intimate Experiences

It probably hasn’t crossed your mind while reading this list but the intimate experiences you have in a good, committed relationship are not of casual and a one-off nature. They mean something to you and bring a certain warmth and closeness to your relationship. They also allow you to be more open and honest with your partner.

See, isn’t it fun to be in a relationship? A good relationship can make you a better person. If you can think of other ways in which a relationship has made your life easier, let us know in the comments below.
