It’s no secret that the Coronavirus lockdown has made all of us frustrated due to the excessive amount of chores and other activities we’ve had to take on. Although we’re saving on workspace commuting time, we still have other chores around the house that may have increased. And while the lockdown is being lifted now, many still don’t want their house help to put themselves in danger by commuting daily. You can take turns assigning tasks and instructions to one another. Cooking is one common activity that you and your partner can divide up and ace well. Here are a few reasons why you and your partner should start cooking with one another:

1. Quality Alone Time

If you and your partner share children, then you guys are probably deprived of alone time together due to the lockdown. Since children are sitting at home most of the time and extremely bored these days, many parents have to spend time trying to entertain them. While this might be really taxing on the parents, it’s unfair on the children as well. Cooking with your partner is a good way to get some quality time with them, away from the phone, laptops, in-laws, and children.

2. Teamwork Helps

Yes, teamwork also includes how well you can assign tasks and manage to split work equally between one another. For example, while he cuts the vegetables, you could start making another part of the dish. This will cut your cooking time in half and require lesser effort. Plus, this will help you both improve your culinary skills which are beneficial for when you live by yourself. Whether you and your partner are take-out pros or have just stepped into the kitchen once or twice, what matters is the amount of work you’re willing to put into learning new skills.

3. Helps Form A Stronger Bond

Just as you bond better with your teammates and colleagues on group projects, you and your partner too will end up forming a stronger bond after cooking together. Not to mention improving on your already existing skills. If you and your partner are experimenting on a dish for the first time, you can learn how to cook it together! Doesn’t that sound like a fun time?

4. It Will Encourage You To Share The Kitchen

Sure, owning the kitchen is something most women are extremely proud of. The kitchen is a playground most of us have been mastering since we learned to cook something as simple as Maggi for our younger siblings. Many of us were taught how to cook by our diligent mothers and some of us picked up the skill just by sheer interest. Teaching and guiding your partner will help him learn how to cook your favorite dishes and be independent when you’re not around. Rather than leave him a few leftover meals, teach him how to make the basics like dal, rice, chicken curry, etc. Who knows, he might even learn to be better than you!

5. You Can Add A Romantic Twist To Your Regular Routine

The kitchen is your playground. You and your partner can put on your favorite music and groove to it while cooking. If you’ve been in a relationship for some time, you’re probably used to schedules and routines, however, cooking together can add a certain spice to your day (pun intended). Turn a dull cooking experience into a blast by incorporating some fun dance and comedic routines. Put your skills to good use and make this a date night he’ll never forget (wink wink).

6. Admiring The Final Product

After slaving for hours at the stove, you and your partner will finally get to see the finished product and you guys can marvel at your creation. You’ll feel even more satisfied after a hearty meal that was cooked by the hard work and efforts of both your partner and you. Plus you’ll feel super proud of the amount of work and dedication that went into creating the dish. Whether the dish is as simple as a dal tadka or something as elaborate as a three-course meal, you and your partner will be proud of the food created. Sure, it may not be the restaurant level of good but you surely will enjoy it more due to the hard work and effort you put into it!

While preparing meals with your significant other, it’s important that you make time for yourselves and not just focus on cooking your meal. The best part about cooking together is that you are sharing your everyday experiences with one another and it’s a good way to just relax and slow down. Just as painting therapy helps you unwind, so does cooking. Well, that’s if your partner isn’t a Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen (jk).
