However, even if you are too tired to change your sheets every day, we would highly recommend slipping into a fresh pair of pajamas, as not doing so can lead to several health problems. In this article, we have mentioned a few health problems you are likely to face if you don’t wear a fresh pair of pajamas to sleep every night. Read on!

1. It May Weaken Your Immunity
Who would have guessed that wearing the same pajamas every night could weaken your immune system! When you wear clothes continuously without washing them, microbes and allergies multiply on the cloth and may enter your system (1). This diminishes your body’s ability to shield you from viral threats and may make you sick. So, even if you can’t wash your pajamas every day, make sure you air them out in sunlight to disinfect them naturally before wearing them.
2. It May Make You Smell Bad
If you are conscious about how you smell, you need to make sure you change your clothes after wearing them each night. Your sleep clothes soak up sweat and create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive. These microbes generate unpleasant odors and may even disrupt your sleep quality.
3. It May Cause Acne
Failing to change into a fresh pair of pajamas may lead to pimples. The microbes that transfer from your sweat glands to your clothes may stay there if you don’t wash, or disinfect them. When you wear them again, they can come in contact with your skin and cause rashes and pimples.
4. It May Cause Allergies
Those who suffer from dust allergies or other respiratory conditions should not risk wearing the same pajamas twice without washing them. Wearing pajamas that are not washed, may pose serious health risks. Dust mites are drawn to the dead skin flakes found in your bedding and nightwear, and this can exacerbate your breathing difficulties. Those allergic to dust should switch their pajamas every other night to reduce exposure to any potential triggers.
5. It May Affect Your Quality Of Sleep
Not changing into a fresh pair of pajamas can make you feel itchy, and waking up all night to itch can affect your quality of sleep. Just like changing sheets make you sleep better, fresh clothes can also help you get quality sleep. Even if you can’t wash your sheets and cover every day, make sure you vacuum or dust the bed before sleeping.
6. It Creates An Unhealthy Sleeping Environment
Sleeping in pajamas that are not fresh can lead to an unhealthy sleeping environment for you. The dust mites and microbes from your clothes can transfer to your skin and linger there as long as you don’t shower. The longer the germs stay there, the more you can feel itchy and uncomfortable. It will also lead to poor quality sleep, and you may feel uneasy and irritated all night.
There is also a chance that when you leave your pajamas to wear them the next day, small insects and mites take refuge in your clothes and cause rashes when you wear them again without washing them.
How To Keep Your Pajamas Clean
Keeping your pajamas clean and ready to wear is not a herculean task. To begin with, invest in pajamas that are made of breathable materials. You can go for cotton or linen as they will help you stay cool throughout the night. Make sure your pajamas are not too fitted or too loose. It should give you enough space to move when you sleep without falling off you. Every morning after changing your pajamas, make sure you leave them to soak in a mild antiseptic solution to kill all the microbes and germs that may linger on them. After waiting for 15 minutes, rinse them in cool water and let them dry in a shade. If you are concerned about the color fading, you can turn them inside out before letting them dry. This will ensure they are in perfect shape for you to wear the following night.
Now that you know why you need to change your pajamas every day, you can improve the quality of your sleep just by changing into a fresh pair of pajamas. It is better to own more than a pair so you can wear them on alternate days and get the other washed and dried on time. Keeping your pajamas clean can help you achieve the good night’s sleep you deserve, so why not get it right away!
