However, the young star received one of his most famous and long-standing roles in a popular TV serial. Life Before Pavitra Rishta
Contrary to popular belief, Sushant made his debut on a show called Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and not Pavitra Rishta. Despite the fact that the character passes away early on in the story, Sushant ended up being a fan favorite and was brought back for the show’s finale. His popularity didn’t let him go unnoticed, and Ekta Kapoor seized the opportunity to push for his casting in a lead role.

However, it took Ekta Kapoor quite some time to convince Zee officials that Sushant was worth taking the risk for. The producer had even shared a throwback image of herself and Sushant together and how she had managed to convince the officials that Sushant’s smile would win a million hearts. Here’s what she had to say, “After being 35 of 50 slots we were out of top 50! This show was a chance Zeetv gave us based on a show #tirumatiselvum! Wanted to cast a boy as lead who was doing second lead on our other show! D creative in zee was adamant he dint look d part! We convinced them his smile wud win a million hearts…..and it did.”
Pavitra Rishta And Mainstream Popularity
Sushant starred in the role of a young man named Manav Deshmukh who enters an arranged marriage with a woman named Archana Karnjkar. The role of Archana was played by actress Ankita Lokhande and the chemistry shared between the two characters was very palpable. Fans loved the pair together and were heavily invested in the show.
Eventually, fans were delighted to find out that Ankita and Sushant were actually dating one another. This made them grow even more invested in the love story between the two characters on the television screen. The pairing seemed almost perfect. Unfortunately for fans, the pair split up and went on to be linked to other people.
A Relationship Built On-Screen
The pair has been in a relationship for several years and their fans even expected them to tie the knot in 2016. They were living together in a cozy love nest in Juhu and were always spotted together at events and supporting one another. However, fans were distraught to hear the news of their split. There were many rumors surrounding the pair’s split and many were quick to claim it was due to “over-possessiveness” on Ankita’s part.
However, both Sushant and Ankita rubbished the rumors and sources close to the pair revealed that the split happened due to conflicting schedules and not having time for one another. According to sources close to the pair, their relationship had simply run its due course. However, the superstar pair maintained a close relationship with each other even after the split and handled the breakup rather well. When quizzed about the relationship, Ankita had said, “I don’t know why everyone’s speculating that our six-year relationship has ended and that we are no longer together. It’s unnecessary and uncalled for. I am there with him as always, I love Sushant Singh Rajput unconditionally. These rumors are completely baseless and in bad taste.”
Clearly Ankita and Sushant managed to maintain a cordial relationship and the actress was even spotted visiting Sushant’s family to pay her respects after his untimely demise. The actress even attended his funeral in Vile Parle along with a few other former co-stars and industry professionals. She is currently in a relationship with a man named Vicky Jain and the pair have even announced that they were engaged in 2019.
As upsetting as the news of Sushant’s passing is, we are truly grateful to be able to witness his acting on screens. The actor’s immense talent is forever memorized through the incredible films and TV shows he was a part of.
