7 Ayurvedic Face Packs For Glowing Skin February 13, 2017

When it comes to skin care, we often pay more emphasis to our face in comparison to other regions. We all wish for a healthy facial skin because it helps boost one’s confidence.

Ayurveda is the most useful and successful means for achieving this purpose. You will be amazed to find abundance of beauty secrets in the form of face masks and other mediums. They all treat and heal the dull and blemished skin to make it into a glowing and healthy skin.

Here are a few amazing ways to make a face pack for glowing skin at home.

Homemade Ayurvedic Face Packs for Glowing Skin

1. Marigold Face Pack for Glowing Skin:

Ever tried face masks with flowers?

It’s time you give it a shot. Genda or Marigold flowers are easily available. So just grab a few and make a fresh flowery paste with some raw milk and 1 tbsp. of honey. Apply this paste to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before you wash it with lukewarm water.

Besides the amazing aroma, the pack also has antibacterial and antiseptic properties that heal the aggravated pimples or zits. Doing this for at least one or two times a week helps tighten the pores and leads to amazing glowing skin. This is a pefect ayurvedic face pack for oily skin.

Alternative:– You can use petals of absolute red roses in the same manner.

2. Turmeric and Besan Pack:

This is the most common homemade ayurvedic face pack for glowing skin used especially during the wedding season, as it helps to enhance the to-be wedded bride’s skin.

Mix 4 tbsp. of besan to half a tbsp. of turmeric powder and make a paste. You can also add some raw milk or malai for added smoothness. Use this at least once a week, for 10-15 minutes to get bright and glowing complexion.

  • Immediately wash your face once you see the face pack cracking.
  • Dry face packs should not remain on the skin for long as it can bring forth fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Chandan or Sandalwood Mask:

To make this face mask, you can use the easily available sandalwood powder instead of grabbing a sandalwood stick and rubbing it on the stone. Both the alternatives do equal justice. Regardless of what you use, mix sandalwood with some water or rose water and apply it on the face for 15 minutes and wash it off. This is among the most popular of face packs for glowing skin.

The benefits of this face mask are that it reduces pimples, enhances the glow and makes the skin soft. Use it 5-6 times a week for better results.

4. Aromatic Facemask:

You can achieve this aromatic face mask by mixing the following ingredients.

  • One small tbsp. of sandal wood paste
  • 2 drops of rose oil
  • 1 drop of lavender oil
  • 2tbsp of besan
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • Mix it all with some malai or buttermilk

Ensure you leave the paste for at least 10-15 minutes and when used at least once a week, it relieves stress, thus giving your skin youthful glow.

5. Ayurvedic Scrub:

Make a scrub with 1 tbsp of fine rice flour and sandalwood powder. To it, add conch shell powder (optional –great for treating pimples), half a tbsp. of milk powder, and 1 tbsp of besan along with rose water. Use this ayurvedic scrub once or twice a week for a spa like scrubbing experience.

6. Honey and Lemon Mask:

This homemade ayurvedic face pack includes anti-oxidant and moisturizing properties, which helps you achieve clean and light skin. Take 1 tablespoon of organic honey and add 3-5 drops of fresh lemon juice and then apply on the face. Make sure to cover all areas of the face excluding the eye area. Rinse it off with clear water after 10-15 minutes. This pack will help you achieve soft, glowing skin in no time.

7. Herbal Pack:

Take some besan, a pinch of turmeric and a few drops of lemon along with raw milk or rose water to make a smooth pack. Apply on a thoroughly cleansed face and leave it for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water to get a soft, smooth, and glowing skin. It also claims to fade away the blemishes along with removing tan and dead skin cells.

Important Tips:

  1. Keep your body hydrated. Drink lots of water to clear the skin from inside out.
  2. Avoid roaming in the sun too much. If it is necessary make sure to cover yourself properly with sunscreens and umbrellas.
  3. Avoid oily food.
  4. Follow a thorough daily skin care regimen.

      If not anything else, at any local flower shop u can easily get marigold flowers…..try it out..it’s good for acne prone skin too, in that case use a little rose water , if milk makes your skin too oily..but this is worth a try….a total spa like feeling and the fragrance of the flowers if just ravishing…..Thank you for the lovely comment……. :)

        thanks Zinnia so much for your informative posts.We men have different types of skin, so are these methods also applicable to men and also you said that its better to wash the skin with warm water before applying the mask.Can we use steam in place of steam to open the pores.

      Hey thanks for the cmt and considering using these masks. Here is ur ans:
      Number one : 10-15 mins max each face pack can be kept on the face,
      umber two : Yes definitely you can do it at night. I myself use face packs at night. Time of the day doesn’t matter for face packs. For bleach you should always do at night. anyways ..coming back to facepacks..since it’s winter..wash your face a little with lukewarm water first to open the pores esp. when doing at night.Wash with luke warm water too. It will open pores and help get the face pack nourish skin deeply and again open pores and take the particles of face pack out while cleansing (since it’s winter,temperature keeps pores a little smaller than they should be in other seasons),then after washing use a toner,or splash with normal cold tap water (tap water stays colder than in other seasons so it will work as toner too ) , use a moisturizing cream which is not a cold cream (cold creams can make u dull) ,use something like a lotion. This is cuz natural face packs can make your skin feeling pretty dry and stretched after a wash..but this varies , like me , i’d not like a cream after face pack use and toning since ive quite oily skin. so if u feel stretchy feel, use a lotion which u are good with.Also this can’t brighten ur skin in one day..use atleast 3-4 times or 4-5 times a week. after noticeable changes in complexion over a month or so lessen the use to 2-3 times and so on.     Hi Zinnia, great article.. love the way you write.. Really worth appreciation. Im a big time besan fan. it really does wonders to the skin. i have stuck to only using besan, haldi and curd pack. it really does wonders to my skin. However, i would love to try chandan pack.. i guess it will do real wonders.. :)

      yea chandan is there into beauty and skincare for eras since golden ages..so you should definitely try out chandan. One more thing i’d point out that chandan works as a sunscreen, so you can wake up in the mornind , rub some chandan with water on the chandan rubbing stone (i donno what to call that in english LOL :D ) and use it on face. It will make your skin like soft supple and will also work as sunscreen. But LOL , don’t depend on this one as a sunscreen for the coming summers though :D hehe ..it’s a natural mild sunscreen for regular wear when you are indoors. I mean just avoiding chemical ones in the early mornings is a nice idea. Or you may use this in the morning and then later on use a chemical sunscreen when going out. Thank you for your comment :)

    My skin is far from glowing! I have tried all kinds of facials at the parlours, creams and also those peel off masks! Can tell me of the above is the best for me to try?

      Dear Kalpana don’t use peel off masks number 1 . Number 2 , try the sandal wood mask or just rub sandal wood on a stone ( these are available in shops , you already know i guess, used for hindu rituals etc. ) use this plain simple sandalwood paste regularly . It should help. You have not mentioned your skin type , so i cannot suggest you properly. However , if your skin becomes too oily after this sandal wood application daily , then try out honey lemon mask. You skin shouldn’t react. One mask can be great for one person and at the same time worse for another if it reacts. All the masks are great. Turmeric besan mask is also good. Sandal wood aromatic mask is also great. first suggestion wud be try out anything wid sandal wood. If that doesnt work, go towards use of lemon or malai. thank u for your comment :)

    Oh wow! You make having glowing and beautiful skin sound so very damn easy! I have dry skin and i am not sure which would be the best option to try of these five…..Chandan is certainly very tempting as i have heard never ending stufff about the goodness of chandan from my grandmum :p any other suggestions apart from chandan?

      yogurt or plain malai can be good esp if you have dry skin. Wont recommend malai for those with oily skin cuz that wud make skin more oily :P :D thanks for the cmt hugs <3 <3

      oh yeh for men also, why not. Don’t u get scratches when u shave or stuff like that? try the chandan(sandalwood) face pack cuz it makes skin smooth,makes it more glowing. actually it makes skin more oily, so try adding a bit of turmeric(for antiseptic properties and it heals pimples too) and a bit of gramflour(wheat flour will also do) so that the face pack becomes suitable for oily skinned people. some skin’s can react to ayurvedic face packs, if urs reacts like itches or gets rashes,do not use it. :) thank u for ur cmt!

      freckles are something which comes with age. You cannot totally remove them with home made techniques, however regular mild scrubbing with rice flour or everyouth mild scrubs can help. Apply a face pack once or twice a week with besan and turmeric or chandan is good too. You can take clinical sittings for a total replacement but that too needs regular followup.

      Hi dear i didnt get u properly
      what is a beautyspot problem?? u get freckles or sun spots?? beauty spot is something else i mean like a small birth mark. Some girls even tattoo out a beauty spot with tattoo ink on their upper lip . What exactly are u referring to? Ifu have a birth mark spot , only cosmetic knives and scissors can remove it. If ur referrign to freckles or sunspots then it means ur skin is highly pigmented by sun damage or may be due to lack of proper care . Get some clinical sittings, start applying home made face packs of besan and sandalwood. Use a pinch of turmeric too. Use lemon juice for additional benefits of bleaching at it’s lowest effect. Its a natural bleach but use it at night cuz it makes skin photosensitive. If u use it during day time, plz dont step out in the sun for atleast 5-6 hours. Use a good quality sunscreen atleast 20 mins b4 stepping out in the sun. Even when ur at home , use a sunscreen every morning after washing ur face properly because if ur cooking or getting near the heat, then also ur skin gets slightly damaged . Do a monthly facial too either at home or at a parlour. Take care , hope ur problem gets solved :)

    thnx 4 ur advice but my problem is occured before 1 year it’s not from birth.9-10 mole or beautyspot as we say , generate automaticaly i dont know the reason so my face,hand look bad that’s my problem so plz give me advice

      its best if u see a skin doctor.. it can be due to internal problems .. u may be suffering from some sort of iron or vitamin deficiency or something like that.. plz consult a doctor before the situation goes out of hand and the number of moles /beauy spots increases . :)

      One exercise that works miracle is
      Lie down straighton the floor with ur palms touching the floor.
      Now without ant support try to lift ur upper half body and touch ur toes.
      Remember ur legs shld be straight touching the floor when u get u and touch ur toe.
      This creates immense pressure on belly.
      Start with daily 20 times.

    hi,i am 16,live in india. i have to face the harsh sun for a major part of the year.i was born with soft fair and glowing skin like many but since a few years, my facial skin has been growing dark,tanned, with uneven skin tone and dark spots on my arms and hands.only the unexposed part remains as it was.i have,like,3 skin tones all over my face and arms.
    could u help?i started applying sunscreen powder since a year back but since i have a problem with excessive sweating,nothing stays long on me.
    plz help.

      lemon juice face packs or yogurt face packs can help you regain your lost skin color. If it is overtly tanned then clinical sittings is the only way :) thanks for ur cmnt.

      U can try similar face packs for your darkened body parts like ive mentioned for Swapna.. do check the reply. Use good quality sunscreen (which stays on ur body, something like a gel or cream which gets soaked into the skin) it is not about how long a sunscreen stays on the skin. After applying any kind of lotion/gel or any stuff on the skin surface it hardly takes 10-15 minutes or less for the skin to get it soaked. The excess remains over the skin. So if ur applying powder form of sunscreen it’s not going to get soaked into ur skin. Use normal sunscreen. Step out 20 mins after application. Carry a bottle with you and re apply when ur out . Reapplication is necessary. and wear covered clothes. Regular routined face packs can improve ur complexion but not totally. U are bound to get a bit tanned in tropical climates and everyone who is born fair will get tanned with regular exposure to sun and climatic changes over their life time, you cannot stop that from happening. You can maintain the skin and thats the best that you can do. If your skin is severely tanned or sun burnt, try clinical sittings are only way out. Hope it helps.. :)

      this is a common problem for most because we do not care enough for our hands and legs but we keep applying different face packs and stuff to our facial skin. You have to start caring equally for your skin on your biceps, hands and legs. You can try same masks for these body parts before bath as u use for your face. Try lemon juice and yogurt masks for face as well as hands, keep for 15/20 minutes and take a shower. This should help. Follow up with moisturisation. You can also try milk and saffron or yogurt and sadalwood face packs. Sometimes try alternating face packs with different ingredients , like multani mitti (fuller’s earth) instead of yogurt and vice versa. hope it helps. Follow a proper and regular routine. :)

    Hi Rimie, using a lot of products on skin may cause more harm than do any good. Thus to get a bright and glowing skin it is important to nourish yourself well. Eat a balanced diet, avoid oily food and increase the intake of fruits. You can apply a milk face pack. For this you will need:
    1. 1 tsp milk
    2. 1 tsp of overnight soaked Almond paste
    3. 1 tsp Aloe Vera gel and
    4. 2 drops of Essential Oil
    5. 1 tbsp Honey
    Mix all the ingredients well, apply on the face, leave it on for 15 minutes, and rinse it with warm water.

    Dear Priya, there are few other simple tricks that you can do to keep your skin fresh and glowing.
    1. Mix 1/2 teaspoon lime and 1/2 teaspoon cucumber juice and apply on face for 1/2 an hour before your bath.
    2. Mix equal parts of lemon juice and water. Pat on your face and allow to dry. Rinse with warm water, followed with a cold water rinse. This can be done twice a day.
    3. In a cup of plain yogurt add 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed orange juice and 1 teaspoon carrot juice. Apply on face for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

    from this always apply herbal cosmetic such as – products from – Himalayas,
